Whenever we talk about garage, we can only visualise a dirty dark room with oil cans, old storage boxes, a rough concrete floor and dust everywhere. Transforming a garage into an extension of your home which will be well-liked by all and may seem to be a tedious task. However, once it’s done, it will give your garage a new and appreciative look.

There are many kinds of garage floor coatings available in the market. As usually people prefer to have a concrete floor in the garage for rough and tough use, it is mandatory that garage floor coatings are chosen very carefully. Some garages have wooden flooring as well, yet one that lasts long and is durable will not only enhance the look of your garage but also prove to be low-maintenance in the long run.

People who just wish to recoat garage floor coatings may opt for a sealant or paint the floor with good quality paint.

Epoxy is one such coating which is preferred by renovators, painters and other professionals in this field. Due to its water –proof texture and resistance to oil, grease and stains, it can be used for a long period of time. Epoxy contains high amount of solids and hence it becomes more durable and ever-lasting.

Epoxy is available in various colours and finish. It gives the surface a very neat and glossy look.

One must make appropriate preparations before setting out on the task of painting the floor. The area must be thoroughly cleaned and dusted making sure that it is completely devoid of any dust or particles. A good degreaser used on the surface will help to clean all traces of petroleum from the floor. To check the effect of the degreaser, a water bead test is conducted wherein some amount of water is spilled on the floor and observed carefully. If the water soaks into the concrete, it means that degreaser has worked well. If water beads are formed on the surface, one must re-do the degreasing of the surface again. One must make sure that there are no cracks or holes in the surface and the surface is very smooth and even. In order to patch up the crevices on the surface, a sealant or cement must be used. Only then garage floor coatings must be applied.

One must ensure that garage floor coatings are of good quality and does not chip off or becomes flaky. A little bit of investment in buying a good product would prove economical and efficient in the long run.
